What are CBD Candles?
Like Ronseal they are exactly what it says on the tin! They are candles which have been infused with Hemp essence. Each brand uses different amounts, strengths and types. There are three main types used in any given product. These are Isolate, Broad Spectrum and Full Spectrum. Each has different benefits to the human body. To read more about the different types used in cannabis candles you can click the name links and learn more.
Cannabis Candles come in many shapes and sizes. They also come with a wide variety of beautiful aromas to choose from. The Green Doctor recommends looking at the healing power of some essential oils and aiming to find a candle which is both natural and promotes health and well-being.
We simply love Woodiesuk.com Pineapple Express. It’s packed with 100MG of pure extract and is THC Free. What we love most is that it uses Soy Wax. Soy wax is safe for kids and pets to be around, it burns clean (no black smoke) in the family home and is an eco/planet-friendly product.
What are the benefits of Hemp candles?
Cannabidiol candles can promote a feeling of calmness and relaxation. There’s nothing quite like running a hot bubble bath, playing some gentle music and lighting a candle to relieve stress, relax aching muscles and promote deep sleep. Add Cannabidiol to that mix and yes! We have one hell of a stress-busting recipe!
How do they work? When Hemp Candles or Melts are gently heated, the vapours rise into the atmosphere. More gentle than vaping, infusing the air with relaxing aromas, which gently nurse you into a state of relaxation and calm.
Choose your essence wisely:
Lavender: Promotes a deep and well-rested good night’s sleep. Lavender may promote the relaxation of certain muscles and may be a great smell for those of you who struggle to drift off to sleep.
Bergamot Orange: Is often used in aromatherapy because of its ability to calm the mind and relieve anxiety.
Peppermint: May be used for muscle pains and headaches. In aromatherapy, peppermint is also used for treating colds and flu, reducing pains as well as promoting mental clarity.
Hemp Candles vs Wax Melts
Are they the same things? All products are derived from Cannabis Sativa Plants. As I mentioned earlier the type Candle or Wax Melt will differ depending on the Company you are using.
At The Green Doctor, we prefer Wax Melts. This is because wax melts can be used on a gentle warmer where no flame is used. A low-powered bulb gently warms your wax melts and releases Vapours softly into the room. Candles can burn too hot which we feel can damage the effect of the CBD within the candle. Some compounds can change their structure under intense heat. Bear this in mind when choosing.
Are they safe?
We believe infused Candles are safe to use providing that you don’t leave any exposed flames unattended.
Choose a natural wax to stop black smoke from rising from your candle. We just love Soy Wax, Beeswax and Coconut wax. Each of these waxes is 100% natural and burns cleanly so no black smoke will rise from the wick. Black smoke is a common side effect of paraffin wax .
Soy Wax: Soy Wax is considered safe and planet-friendly. It also burns longer than paraffin wax. Soy smells amazing!
Bees Wax Is 100% Natural and is considered safe for use. Some companies add coconut oil to their beeswax to stop tunnelling.
Coconut Wax: 100% natural with an amazing scent throw. Coconut also burn slowly. Giving a longer lifespan.
Where to buy?
The internet is teeming with many retailers. Knowing who to choose can be daunting. Let’s take a look at The Green Doctors’ 3 top picks.
Mr Floral: Offer a cool 19-69 Chronic. Containing wonderful notes of Patchouli and Clary Sage. We feel this promotes well-being and mental clarity. The only downside is the cost of £55 we feel it’s pricey!
The CBD Candle Company: Offer a wonderful Lavender scent at an even greater price of £20. As mentioned earlier we just love the benefits of pure lavender essential oils. It improves anxiety, and mental function and helps promote sleep and well-being.
CBD Pure Oils: Here we have our winner! Why then you may ask? Pure Oils offer a range of Wax Melts which we feel are more affordable and they burn longer at 2 hours burn time per melt. Each pack contains 10 Wax Melts for £9.
How to make CBD candles
Ideally, we recommend making your own DIY candles and Wax Melts! It’s fun and you can choose whichever natural ingredients call to you. Mixing your essential oil potions to make a custom blend for you and you only!
What you will need:
- A natural wax-like Soy Wax, Bees Wax or Coconut Wax.
- A Stainless Steel jug for Melting your Wax.
- A large pot.
- Wooden Sticks to stir the mixture.
- A glass jar or Wax Melt Mould.
- Wicks (if making a candle jar)
- Essential Oils or Fragrance Oils.
- 500MG CBD Oil.
Our recipe, Let’s Start!
- Fill your pot with water and bring it to a boil.
- Place your stainless steel jug in the pot and put your wax into the jug to melt. Be careful not to get any water into your wax.
- Stir until your wax turns into a liquid.
- Combine your fragrance with your wax. Each wax will have a different fragrance load. Soy wax for example usually holds 10% fragrance. Check your fragrance load with your wax manufacturer.
- Take your mixture off the heat and now add your CBD and mix.
- Pour into your mould or jar.
- Allow cooling.
